I am a Certified Professional Labor Doula through New Beginnings Doula Training and a Childbirth Educator through ALACE serving the Richmond, VA area and west to Charlottesville, VA and the rural areas in between. I am also certified in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP).
I have given birth to two babies in the hospital with a midwife and using two different doulas. My own births were empowering and transforming experiences for me and I seek to share that with other women. I come to your birth prayerfully prepared to serve you and your family.
I see my role at a birth as that of a Sherpa. I get to help pregnant women and their partners navigate the often unfamiliar terrain of labor and birth. In other words, I speak the "native language."
I am a guide that will help you flesh out your own values surrounding birth, direct you toward resources, help you communicate with your provider, help your partner be available to you during the birth and free you to just enjoy becoming a family.
If you would like a reference, I would be happy to provide you with that!
My husband Brandon and I live in Goochland County, Virginia with our 2 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a flock of chickens. We love camping and hiking. We homeschooled our kids for 5 years, but in 2017 I stepped onto the path to becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. The kids are in school now along with me! In my spare time I love to knit, felt, hand-spin yarn and make things with animal fibers (including spinning the fur from my bunnies). We are active members at Hope Church.
I recently blogged my answers to a typical doula interview questionnaire. You can read that interview here on the Eden's Garden Birth Blog.
