Moxibustion For Breech
Around 3-4% of babies are in a bottom down or breech position at the end of pregnancy. Women who have a baby in a breech position will usually have limited options for birth here in the U.S. where 90% of breech babies will be born via cesarean section.
There are many tricks for helping a breech baby into a head down (or vertex) position. Some of these include positioning, doing handstands in a swimming pool, external cephalic version (the doctor manually turns the baby by manipulating the outside of the pregnant woman's belly), and moxibustion.
One of the tools we have that has been shown to sometimes be successful for turning a breech baby is Moxibustion. Moxibustion for breech is done by applying heat to an acupoint on the outside of the pinky toenail.
